You might think there isn’t any more space to build another tower. Not at the moment, but after the demolition of Park Lane Hotel there will be another addition to Billionaire’s Row.
Last year, developer Steven Witkoff and Macklowe Properties purchased the Helmsley Park Lane Hotel for $650 million. The plan is for the Witkoff Group to demolish the Park Lane Hotel and replace it with a luxury high-rise building nearly twice the height, called 1 Park Lane. This amazing glass tower will consist of condos with high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows, a private restaurant, porte-cochere, swimming pool, spa, and each unit will have an outdoor space. This 1200 feet tall 88 unit condo building, is expected to be completed in 2020, which will be the finest, most elegant, and luxurious condominium apartment building in New York City, an ambitious claim to stake.
If the residents of this new tower decide to leave their building, Central Park South offers it all, from the best hotels, restaurants, and near by the high-end luxury stores. Marea CPS is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city, Villagio on the Park is also excellent and offers exquisite outdoor seating right next to Sarabeth’s. The Essex House with South Gate restaurant is a great place for meetings and an after work drink. No comments about the food and service though. Let’s not forget the legendary Plaza Hotel over 100 years of history, which was partially converted to condos in recent years. If you are looking for a great place to have a cup of tea, check out teatime at the Plaza 1-5pm and every Wednesday you can listen to Jazz music at the Rose Club. There is so much to experience along this southern boundary of Central Park. It is one of the defining neighborhoods of New York City. As a closing tip, there are several entrances to concourse level secret restaurants and food halls on Central Park South. One of them is under Plaza Hotel where you can enter from 58th street, and discover vendors from all around the city.
