After the short winter, it would be great to have a long spring in New York City. Spring in the City is the perfect season for being outside in my backyard, Central Park.
There is an interesting history about Central Park. Back in 1853, wealthy merchants and landowners who admired the public grounds of London and Paris felt that New York too needed a park with an international reputation. A park that would offer carriage rides, row boating, ice-skating, a children’s playground, and a place to hear birds signing.
Central Park is on 843 acres of land that required relocating 1,600 residents and farms prior to construction. Today there are 9 man-made bodies of water including one of the largest man-made reservoirs which is situated between 85th and 96th Streets.
There are so many attractions to see at the Park; Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, Central Park Zoo, Heckscher Playground, Conservatory Pond, Friedsman Carousel, Belvedere Castle with exhibit rooms and observation deck, Loeb Boathouse where you can rent a rowboat, and Strawberry Fields named in 1981 in memory of John Lennon.

Central Park
The Great Lawn is a large clearing with lawns and ball fields, perfect for sunbathing, picnicking, and a venue for concerts. Over the years there have been a number of large concerts held at the great lawn, such as the annual Global Citizen’s festival every September. The Loeb Boathouse restaurant and Tavern on the Green are great places for drinks or brunch at the park.
This amazing park is surrounded by some of the best restaurants and landmark buildings. If you’re looking for an amazing meal with a park view try these; Per Se, Jean Georges, Marea, Asiate, Villagio, Southgate, Stone Rose Lounge, and Roberts. Hope you are taking advantage of all the great things this city has to offer.
