Over the past months we made two visits to 50 West Street in what we see as the icon of the New Downtown, uber high-rise luxury with a hint a Soho loft. When completed, the soaring 64 stories of gently curved double-heighted walls of glass will be a feng shui dream.
50 West Street is where trendy Soho lofts meet Downtown modernity to create ultimate luxury living. Helmut Jahn’s gorgeous steel and glass sculpture is contemporary opulence redefined. Not convinced, just ask what inspired renowned interior designer Thomas Juul-Hansen to not only design 50 West, but also to purchase a residence himself! Juul-Hansen has numerous projects underway on the island of Manhattan, and yet he signed the dotted line at 50 West Street for a new humble abode. But who can blame him? This masterpiece seems to have it all! Views of the city, Hudson River, Statue of Liberty & Ellis island, four full floors of private amenities, spacious layouts and a landscaped observatory high enough to touch the sky. An upscale restaurant on the second-floor of the luxury skyscraper is also in the works. One can only guess what fine dining residents and city-dwellers alike get to enjoy on the menu, but I hear the chef will be quite famous.
Upon completion, residents at 50 West Street will have the greatest city on Earth right at their feet being only moments away from the Oculus transportation hub, World Trade Center and what is sure be the new epicenter of high-end retail shopping at Brookfield Place. Plus, lucky residents never know whom they might run into on the elevator during occupancy in Fall 2016. Nothing like having your friendly neighbor, Juul-Hansen, stop by for some décor tips!
